Bullying
Bullying
One out of every five students reports being bullied. Bullying can be verbal, physical, sexual, and cyber-type. Children are often bullied because of their physical appearance, race/ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, and sexual orientation. Being bullied has many negative effects on the child such as, low self-image, social isolation, anxiety, depression, and somatic issues.
Children who are victims of bullying also tend to have lower academic achievements and are at a higher risk for dropping out of school. As reported by the Center for disease control, children who are bullied have a higher risk for suicide-related behaviors, substance use, and other behavioral issues.
