About Sigi Ashwal

Sigi Ashwal holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Masters of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She is an active member of the American Counseling Association, and has had intensive training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) via the Beck Institute, the leading and original international source for CBT.

Ms. Ashwal treats children, adolescents and adults, and has been been working with children of all ages (& their families) for more than 25 years. She has vast experience in child development & behavior management, & utilizes play therapy techniques to treat children who have suffered trauma. Ms. Ashwal has also worked with at-risk and delinquent youth referred by the Department of Justice.

As a practitioner who utilizes CBT, Ms. Ashwal seeks to develop strong therapeutic relationships with her clients and work collaboratively with them toward their therapeutic goals. Her “whole-istic” counseling considers every element of a person’s background (including nationality, religion, race, gender, and generational and socioeconomic factors): variables that make each person unique. Her focus areas of treatment include depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, and behavior management. Humor, warmth, compassion, genuine curiosity, and a desire to help others are hallmarks of Ms. Ashwal’s character and practice.

Mission Statement

I believe that we all are born with potential to succeed. Unfortunately, not everything is under our control, and we sometime have to overcome life’s road blocks. My mission as a mental health counselor is to truly know and understand each of my clients, in order to design a treatment plan that is unique to them. There is no “one size fits all” type of treatment. My goal is to help each individual I treat reach the goals within their potential.

Why Me?

I have been working with children and families for over 25 years, providing education and family guidance. I have a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a Master’s degree in mental health counseling, both from Nova Southeastern University. I am a mother of two amazing boys and a stepmother to three more great children. Working with children for so long I have learned the importance of early intervention for their future well-being. Working with parents (adults) I’ve come to appreciate the significance of addressing issues that hold people back from becoming who they dreamed they would be when they were kids themselves. I think my heart has always been in helping others feel better about themselves. With my passion for helping people, my life experiences, and my education, I would like to help you too.
