Anxiety
Anxiety
Anxiety affects 40 million adults in the US and 25% of o children 13-18. This number has tripled since the Covid-19 pandemic. Fear is one on human’s most primal defense mechanisms (“fight or Flight”) intended to warn us of impending danger. In people who suffer from anxiety, this fear is excessive, uncontrollable and disproportionate to the actual risk. Anxiety is as real and debilitating as any other physical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. It is attributed to factors such genetics, brain chemistry, temperament, and life experiences. Treating anxiety depends on the type of client (i.e. adult, child) and the type of anxiety the person presents (i.e. General anxiety disorder, social anxiety, separation anxiety). Treatment of anxiety includes using Cognitive Behavioral (talk) Therapy, teaching the client various relaxation techniques, and gradually exposing the client to the feared situation.
